Configuring TCSH on Ubuntu

Ubuntu’s shell lacks the search backward capabilities that exist in FreeBSD. This page describes the process of configuring tcsh on Ubuntu.

pkg_add -r tcsh

chsh -s /bin/tcsh [username]
To get the same experience at the shell as FreeBSD put the following into

vi /etc/csh.cshrc

bindkey "^W" backward-delete-word
bindkey -k up history-search-backward
bindkey -k down history-search-forward
